Azerbaijan to accept only equal partnership agreement with EU -- ambassador

Azerbaijan has its own opinion on the Eastern Partnership and will not sign agreements infringing upon its interests, Azerbaijan's Ambassador in Moscow Polad Bulbuloglu told the Rossiya 24 TV channel on Thursday.

"The first treaty, which has been proposed and which some countries have signed, does not satisfy us," the diplomat said, commenting on the country's participation in the fourth summit of the Eastern Partnership European program that has got underway on Thursday in the Latvian capital Riga. "We can only talk about an equal partnership agreement. Azerbaijan doesn't need to sign agreements detrimental to its interests and sovereignty."

"We are a self-sufficient country, and we don't need anything from anyone," the ambassador said. He recalled that Baku would host the first European Games in June, adding that organizers expected some "distinguished guests" to attend the opening ceremony.
