Russian experts dismiss G7's communique as salvo in information war

Russian experts have sized up the communique, which the G7 heads of state and government issued upon the end of their conference in Brussels, as an inadequate document that fell flat in reflecting reality.

They say the text of the communique completely distorts Russia's role in settling the crisis in Ukraine and it has been superimposed on the G7 leaders by Washington.

The list of demands the G7 issued to Moscow includes recognition of results of the May 25 presidential election in Ukraine, a full pullback of troops from the Russian-Ukrainian border, and a blocking of the inflow of "weapons and militants" to the eastern regions of Ukraine.

"On the background of Kiev's punitive operation in the southeast of the country where hundreds of people have already died, the communique says the G7 hails the willingness of the Ukrainian authorities to continue a comprehensive national dialogue," Larissa Vdovichenko, an advisor to the speaker of the upper house of Russian parliament told ITAR-TASS.

"I actually wonder where the G7 leaders have seen the signs of an all-nation dialogue in Ukraine," she said. "The authorities in Kiev are showering their fellow-countrymen with artillery fire and bombings from the air but the West does not denounce the Kiev government - on the contrary, they push it towards a continued suppression of protests in the southeast of the country by force."

"The is US is clearly pursuing its own interests, not the interests of the Ukrainian people," Vdovichenko said.

"The Brussels communique demonstrates the G7 leaders' political inadequacy and political ineptness," said Dr. Mikhail Delyagin, the director of the Moscow-based Institute of Globalization Problems. "The world was recently astounded by a statement of the US Department of State spokeswoman Jen Psaki who claimed it was common knowledge that natural gas is transported by a pipeline from Western Europe to Russia via Ukraine. One could laugh it off but it was repeated later on by the President and Secretary of State."

"As regards Russia's stance on Ukraine, US politicians and EU leaders draw up a make-belief picture of the world that doesn't have anything in common with reality," Dr. Delyagin said.

"In reality, Washington has no interest whatsoever in what is taking place in Ukraine because the Americans' genuine goal is to fan Russophobic sentiments in the EU so as to lubricate the adoption of anti-Russian sanctions and thus to deal as big a blow as possible to the economic competitors in Europe," he said.

"Washington has managed to whip up anti-Russian moods in Europe, indeed but these moods are dictated in a large measure by the EU's jealousy towards Russia, which is much freer from US pressures than themselves."

"However, European politicians are compelled to look back at their corporations and that is why reluctance of a number of EU member-states to impose economic sanctions on Russia is dictated by their own economic interests, not by good feelings towards Russia," he said.

"Once in the past, the contradictions between the US and the former G8, which included Russia, over global economic problems necessitate expansion of the G8 into the G20 for the purpose of cushioning off the US pressure on the decisions coordinated by the majority of participants," Dr. Delyagin said. "Yet the Europeans are still not free from Washington's pressure and the Brussels communique offers a proof of it."

"Along with this, the level of Washington's hostility towards Russian has been running out of all bounds of late," he said.

"A glaring sample of machismo politics" - that is how the communique was described by former First Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Anatoly Adamishin, who is President of the Association of Euro-Atlantic Cooperation.

"The Brussels communique was clearly written by American quills," he said. "More than that, the armed operation in the southeast of Ukraine is also coordinated by the Americans and that is why they justify Kiev's punitive actions against own citizens."

"Even the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has confirmed that the Ukrainian Air Force planes made a bombing raid at the building of the Luhansk region administration but still the vests prefers to believe the official Kiev's allegations that the building was blown up by an unidentified flying object of some kind," Adamishin told ITAR-TASS.

"The G7 communique is just one of the salvos in the information war and it is no way in an effort to settle in the crisis in Ukraine in accordance with the Geneva accords and the OSCE roadmap," he said. "This document, which clearly targets Russia, issues a carte blanche to Kiev for its freewheeling and for the continuation of punitive actions in the East of Ukraine."

"The American factor is overtly playing towards deterioration of the Ukrainian crisis, while neither the EU nor Russia nor Ukraine as such is interested in its deterioration," Adamishin said.

"Washington alone will benefit from destabilization in the region, as it is seeking to keep the Europeans on a short leash," he said. "The White House accuses Russia of destabilizing the situation in the world, as this makes it easier for Obama to attain his domestic political objectives in the run-up to the next presidential election, in which his partisan associate, Hillary Clinton, will take part."

"One would like to hope that Friday's conference of the heads of countries, which used to make up the anti-Hitler coalition, will become a prelude to a serious discussion on how to settle the crisis in Ukraine," Adamishin said.
