Allied relations treaty with Russia is tool to protect republic -- South Ossetian president
The allied relations and integration treaty with Russia is geared to protect South Ossetia, South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov told TASS on Friday after the document was ratified by the Russian State Duma lower parliament house.
"I would like to note once again, the treaty, along with other agreements signed earlier with various Russian agencies, will serve the interests of our countries," he said. "The treaty provides for the formation of a common military space and on the background of what is going on in the world, on the background of the current difficulties, my people and my republic are to be protected."
"I think the treaty will be a document that will serve the stability and defence of the republic," he stressed.
The South Ossetian president said it was time to begin work on additional agreements envisaged by the framework treaty. He earlier told TASS there were about ten such agreements.
"Such work is already being conducted by our government structures and specialists from Russia and today we can say that we are beginning a large-scale work on various proposals to be included into additional agreements needed to implement the basic treaty," Tibilov said.
The Russian State Duma on Friday unanimously ratified the Treaty on Allied Relations between Russia and South Ossetia, which was signed on March 18, 2015 in Moscow. The treaty was signed for a term of 25 years with possible extension every next ten years.
