FM: NATO's decision to suspend cooperation with Russia contradicts common sense

NATO's decision to suspend meetings within practical cooperation with Russia runs counter common sense, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday.

"NATO's decision proves of a biased and tendentious approach towards studying the causes and effects of the events in Ukraine," Lukashevich said.

"The intention to restrict cooperation in reacting to common threats and challenges -- terrorism, piracy, crises, extremism, natural calamities and man-made catastrophes, Afghanistan and Syrian chemical weapons -- runs counter common sense. The Russia-NATO Council has no projects and programs of cooperation, which would meet the interests of Russia only or NATO members," the Russian diplomat said.

"We gave necessary explanations to the development of a political dialogue on the RNC platform. These explanations were also related to ensuring security of the Black Sea Fleet facilities in Crimea," he said.

"We consider the attempts to introduce 'NATO's factor' in the difficult and fragile situation in Ukraine very dangerous. They make the situation tenser and wreck prospects for normalizing the situation," Lukashevich said.
