Kiev's allegations that Surkov was behind Maidan developments in 2014 absurd -- ForMin

Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday official Kiev's allegations that Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov was behind the Maidan developments in 2014 were absolutely absurd.

"But Ukraine's security services have put the Ukrainian authorities in an awkward -- I wish I could use less diplomatic terms -- position more than once," he said. "Today's nonsense is another proof."

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said earlier, citing Ukraine's Security Service, that Vladislav Surkov, who was in charge of issues of Russia's cooperation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, had been allegedly behind the developments in Kiev in February 2014 when more than 100 protesters and policemen had been killed.

"The international community still insists the Ukrainian authorities carry out a comprehensive investigation of the shooting of people in Maidan (Kiev's central Independence Square, the venue of grassroots protests) and is waiting for answers to the question where the evidence had vanished, who were those people with guns in Maidan caught on camera, who and why brought weapons to Maidan, and so on," the spokesman said. "We are waiting for an investigation of the crime in Odessa where people were burnt alive and where secret meetings with representatives of Ukraine's current authorities had been held right before this tragedy."

"We are waiting for an investigation of the murder at the Party of Regions' office, of shooting dead unarmed people in Mariupol, and many other crimes," he underscored.

"So, Ukraine's investigation and special services have a lot to do. But instead of investigations, they indulge in circulating absolute nonsense worth of a mental home," Lukashevich noted.
