Belarus' Lukashenko tells Putin he supports Russia's operation in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko have held a telephone conversation to discuss the special operation in Ukraine. The Belarusian leader expressed support for Moscow's actions, the Kremlin's press-service said on Friday.

Putin briefed Lukashenko on progress in the special military operation to defend Donbass and commented on the continuing negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegates, the news release reads. Lukashenko confirmed support for Russia's actions.

The two leaders agreed on further contacts.

Putin on February 24 launched a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request for help from the leaders of the two Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans for an occupation of Ukrainian territories, its sole aim being the country's demilitarization and denazification. The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces were not attacking cities. The focus is entirely on putting military infrastructures out of order.
