Peskov: Part of Ukrainian population denied in its right to self-determination

Part of Ukrainian population has been turned down cold in its right to self-determination, right to legitimate decisions, right to act in defense of its dignity and safety. Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated this on Friday.

"Unfortunately, the West turns a blind eye to it. And unfortunately for us, despite all the attempts of our president, his readiness to clear Russia's stance almost on a daily basis, we are still facing a total misunderstanding. This is very sad," Peskov said in an interview at the "Sunday night with Vladimir Solovyov" TV show, partly aired by Russia 24 channel.

The presidential spokesperson added that the events taking place in eastern Ukraine and Crimea are out of all relation to the Russian Federation. "These are not artificial processes, and far less processes led by some specific actions from Russia's side. On the contrary, Russia is the country asked for help," Peskov noted. "And, as Putin rightly noted, Russia is the country that in this case by no means can leave these processes unnoticed. However, the origin of these processes is intra-Ukrainian," the press secretary added.
