Russia's Dobrolyot air carrier suspends flights over European sanctions

Russia's Dobrolyot air carrier said on Sunday it suspends flight from August 4 over the European Union's sanctions.

"After the European Union imposed economic sanction against Dobrolyot, a number of European contractors have notified us about their waiver to fulfill their liabilities to the air carrier - they have annulled lease, technical maintenance and insurance and aero-navigation contracts," the company said in a press release. "In conditions of unprecedented pressure exerted on Dobrolyot from European contractors, the air carrier is forced to suspend flights and ticket sales.

Dobrolyot said that passengers who have tickets for flights from Moscow to Crimea's capital Simferopol and back till September 15 and for flights from Moscow to the southern Russian city of Volgograd and back till August 20 will be taken to their destinations by planes of Orenburg Airlines on the dates fixed in their tickets. Passengers bound for Samara, Perm, Ufa, Yekaterinburg, Surgut and Kazan may claim their money back.

Dobrolyot, a low-cost airline, is 100-percent subsidiary of Russia's biggest air carrier Aeroflot. It fleet includes two Boeings 737-800 NG and one Sukhoi Superjet-100. By the end of 2014, the company planned to add six more Boeings to its fleet. Both of its Boeings are leased from BBAM Aircraft Leasing and Management.
