Erdogan calls for strict compliance with Minsk agreements

Strict compliance with a package of measures agreed in the Belarusian capital Minsk will allow to resolve the crisis in Ukraine, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday during a joint news conference with Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko.

"The settlement of the Ukrainian crisis can be achieved through diplomatic means only," he said.

"We're calling for strict compliance with a package of measures adopted in Minsk," Erdogan said. "We want the Minsk agreements to be implemented as well as the package of measures envisaged by them." He described these agreements as "a window of opportunity that should be opened as wide as possible."

The Turkish leader stressed that he supported Ukraine's territorial integrity, appealing to Kiev to "further protect the rights of all religious and ethnic groups, primarily the Crimean Tatars."
