Truce violated 58 times in Donetsk republic over 24 hours -- DPR defence ministry

The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has fixed 58 ceasefire violations by Ukrainian troops over the past 24 hours, sources from the republic's defense ministry told the Donetsk News Agency on Thursday.

"Over the past 24 hours, [Ukrainian] troops concentrated fire on the territory of the DPR. Militias fixed 58 incidents of shelling, including with the use of heavy weaponry," the sources said.

They said in one of the incidents missiles were fired, artillery fire was fixed eight times and tank guns fired on eight occasions. Mortar fire was opened 36 times, the sources said.

According to the defence ministry, coming under massed fire were the city of Donetsk (including the airport and three coalmines), Gorlovka and Dokuchayevsk. The settlements of Kurganka, Veseloye, Shirokino, Lozovoye, Spartak, Novaya Maryevka, Zheleznaya Balka, Yelenovka, Signalnoye and Sakhanka were also shelled by Ukrainian troops.

Information about casualties among the civilian population is specified.

Kiev, for its part, reported 18 incidents in which militia fired on positions of Ukrainian troops.

The Belarusian capital of Minsk hosted on February 12 summit talks of Normandy Four leaders - Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The 16-hour marathon summit negotiations ended in a package of agreements, which in particular envisaged ceasefire between the Ukrainian conflicting sides starting from midnight on February 15, withdrawal of all heavy weapons by both sides, a dialogue on political future of parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as a constitutional reform in Ukraine with adoption of a new constitution by the end of 2015, decentralization being among its key elements.
