Gazprom receives $136 mln of prepayment from Naftogaz of Ukraine for gas supplies


Naftogaz of Ukraine transferred $136 mln to Gazprom as pre-payment for gas, Ukraine's Minister of Energy and Coal Mining Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn told journalists Tuesday.

"They have payed another $136 mln," he said, commenting on the prepayment.

"All the money that we have ($500 mln on Naftogaz account in the state-owned banks), are allocated for the payment," Ukrainian News quoted the Minister.

On October 12 Gazprom reported on the previous payment, when Naftogaz paid $234 mln of prepayment of the promised $500 mln.

Earlier, Natfogaz Head Andrey Kobolev said that the Russian side fulfills Kiev request Kiev on gas supplies. According to the company estimations, more than 17 bln cubic meters will be accumulated in storage facilities by the end of October, "which gives hopes of a relatively comfortable season."

Currently more than 16 bln cubic meters of gas injected in Ukraine storage facilities. 19 bln cubic meters is necessary for the heating season.

Naftogaz plans to increase gas volume in underground storage facilities through imports from Russia. Demchyshyn said earlier, "it is practically impossible to get through the heating season without Russian gas."

Naftogaz intends to attract additional $300 mln from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the gas injection, about $500 mln Kiev expects to receive before the end of this year from the World Bank. Negotiations with the World Bank on the terms of the loan are scheduled for the next week, Demchishin said.
