Czech president supports extension of OSCE mission's mandate in Ukraine

The mandate of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's observer mission to Ukraine should be extended, Czech President Milos Zeman told reporters on Friday.

"The OSCE mission's mandate should be extended to guarantee more efficient and complete disengagement of warring sides to maintain a long-term truce," the Czech leader said.

Zeman also said that the number of Czech experts in the OSCE mission should be increased from the present eleven observers.

Earlier, Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek proposed to expand the republic's participation in the OSCE observer mission.

Moreover, in the Czech president's opinion, deployment of the UN peacekeepers to Ukraine's southeast is not the best way for the progress in the settlement of the conflict.
