Russia, US agree to intensify information security cooperation — Security Council


Russia and the United States have agreed to step up information security cooperation. According to the press service of the Russian Security Council, this agreement was one of the results of a high-level meeting on international information security held in Geneva on April 21-22.

"The two sides agreed to continue building relations in this area in a non-confrontational manner and in practical terms to intensify the bilateral cooperation to counter threats in the field of information and communication technologies," the Russian Security Council said.

The two sides discussed the prospects for adoption of the rules, regulations and principles of countries' responsible behavior in the information space, the issues of maintaining stability in the information space and ways of countering information technology crimes and the use of the Internet for terrorist purposes. They also discussed the issues of improving the efficiency of information exchange through the communication channels established in accordance with the joint Statement by the Russian and US presidents on a new field of cooperation in confidence-building of June 17, 2013.

The Russian delegation was led by Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Sergey Buravlyov and the US delegation - by White House cybersecurity coordinator Michael Daniel. Taking part in the event were representatives of the Russian Security Council, Foreign Ministry, Defense Ministry, Interior Ministry, the Federal Security Service (FSB) and Federal Guard Service (FSO). From the US the event was attended by representatives of the White House, the US Department of State, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National Intelligence Council.
