Russian troops blockading road to Avdeyevka to worsen Ukrainian army's position, says DPR
Russian forces are successfully blockading the road to Avdeyevka in the Donetsk area to worse the Ukrainian army's position, acting Head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin said on Monday.
"In the Avdeyevka direction, our units are also moving forward. It is early to speak about operational encirclement yet. The situation emerging for the enemy is extremely difficult, if not critical. Here we see the need to blockade the road, which is being done quite successfully," the acting DPR head said in a live broadcast on the Rossiya-24 television channel.
Russian troops are developing an offensive after the liberation of Krasnogorovka, Pushilin said.
The acting DPR head said on March 30 that the situation around the Kiev-controlled Avdeyevka north of Donetsk was developing swiftly and Russian forces were pushing forward from several directions at a time.
Avdeyevka with a population of about 30,000 people is located north of Donetsk. The Ukrainian military has turned the town into its stronghold over the period of the conflict in Donbass. From Avdeyevka, Ukrainian troops have been shelling Donetsk, Makeyevka, Yasinovataya and their outskirts.
