President orders to draw Arctic region development plan by December 1
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered the government to draw by December 1 a plan for implementing the state policy to develop the Arctic region, the Secretary of Russia's Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, told reporters after SC meeting on Wednesday.
"The president approved the basic principles of the state policy in this direction, and issued an instruction to prepare by December 1 a plan to implement the basic principles of the state policy in the Arctic region," Patrushev said.
He ruled out the possibility of a war for the Arctic region, noting however, that "both Russia and other northern states will be defending their interests in the region."
